STRENGTHENING TEXTILE COOPERATIVES

IN THE REGION OF LAAYOUNE -SAKIA EL HAMRA FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT

Entrepreneuriat

The project to support textile cooperatives in the region of Laayoune -Sakia El Hamra, carried out in partnership with Act4Community and the Higher School of Textile and Clothing Industries (ESITH), was launched in May 2022 following an assessment of the needs of cooperatives. This tailored initiative aims to train and equip cooperatives to improve their professionalism, their products quality and increase their profitability. Among the 20 cooperatives selected, 85% are women-led cooperatives, demonstrating the commitment to women's economic empowerment.

Over a total duration of 60 days, the program enabled to support the selected cooperatives in their development, transforming them into viable and autonomous structures. In addition, it enabled the creation of a skills development center, which will become a reference for training in the textile and clothing sector in Laayoune region. The program offers a wide range of technical training covering all aspects of cooperative business, such as raw material sourcing, supplier management, modeling, prototyping, quality, production, marketing and much more. 1others.

An operational approach inspired by field experience

The project was designed after field visits to assess the specific needs of cooperatives. A call for applications was launched, followed by a rigorous selection of the 20 participating cooperatives. The training courses were delivered by specialist textile experts and trainers, providing cooperatives with essential knowledge and practical skills to improve their practices and productivity. The support has been personalized to meet the specific needs of each cooperative and promote their sustainable development.

For a lasting socio-economic impact

Thanks to this project, 20 textile cooperatives benefited from training and strengthening of their technical and managerial skills. This enabled to improve the quality of the products, increase their added value and strengthen their positioning on the market. One of the beneficiary cooperatives obtained a first order for 1,400 items from the Phosboucraa site, relating to clothing for the children of employees participating in summer camps. In addition, the creation of a skills development center in the region will promote the sustainability of the local textile industry and allow the transmission of know-how to future generations. This project thus contributes to the creation of sustainable jobs, the economic empowerment of women and the socio-economic development of the region.
